PEF Brings Music, the Arts and Science to the Fog Fest Parade

If you were lining Palmetto Avenue for this year’s Fog Fest parade, you might have spotted giant crayons, towering storybooks and a lab-coated scientist waving from the back of a truck. That was us!

The Pacifica Education Foundation rolled out a brand-new float this year, built by our volunteers in a school parking lot the day before the parade. Oversized crayons and colored pencils stood alongside classic picture books like Corduroy and Where the Sidewalk Ends, while our resident scientist showed off a molecule model to the crowd. Kids rode along in pencil hats, and our team tossed PEF beach balls to cheering families all along the route. The message on the front said it best: PEF is Music. Art. Science.

Best of all, we got to march right behind the middle school band, one of the music programs PEF helps fund. Seeing those students in their black-and-gold uniforms, brass gleaming and drums pounding, was a perfect reminder of why we do what we do. Every donation to PEF helps keep music, art and science alive in Pacifica’s public schools.

A huge thank-you to Sara Hall who led the effort and Jason Lisica who towed the float, along with their very creative friends Cindy and Grazie. Additional thanks to Diana Kochieva-Oren for capturing the day in photos.

Want to help keep the music playing? Join us for Donation Days, November 16–18, or donate and volunteer anytime at pacificaef.org.
